A double on Saturday 19 March completed a fine week for the yard. While Mille Sussurri was gifted his race at Uttoxeter when the leader Coupdebol fell at the last fence, Gaot looked poised to break her duck over hurdles until she all but came down at the second last flight.

With Deeper Blue winning in style earlier at Fontwell and Boothill going tantalisingly close in a £50,000 handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter I couldn’t be happier with the form of our horses.

It was good to see Mille Sussurri get off the mark over fences after his narrow defeat at the track in December. He travels well in his races but doesn’t always find as much as expected.

Deeper Blue had run with great promise when second behind Stage Star at Chepstow in October but has twice performed below par since then. We identified a couple of issues, treated him for them and were hopeful he would bounce back to form at Fontwell.

He was always in command, jumped soundly and won decisively. If he is fine in the morning he could turn out again on Tuesday at Exeter in a £20,000 handicap hurdle under a penalty.

With a better jump at the final flight, Boothill might have beaten Beaufort in a tight finish at Uttoxeter. They were upsides at the time but Boothill dragged his hind legs through the hurdle, and lost a bit of momentum which might have made the difference between victory and defeat.
