ASK ME EARLY MAKES PLEASING RETURN WITH HURDLES WIN
Ask Me Early returned to action with a pleasing first success over hurdles at Exeter on Tuesday 2 November.
Choosing a novice hurdle for him first time out was ideal because I didn’t really want to run him over fences before the weights for the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow are published.
That is his main aim for the first half of the season as he has form at the track and is at his best in deep ground.
Ask Me Early was far from fully wound up on Tuesday and took a blow on the turn for home but he was still there with a chance at the final flight and made full use of a gap on the rails as the long time leader Grange Road drifted left on the flat.
Things looked tight for a moment before he edged ahead to claim the victory by a neck.
I couldn’t have been happier with his jumping and he again showed a great attitude in the closing stages.
Next up for Ask Me Early is the Welsh Grand National Trial at Chepstow on December 4 and a decent run there should put him spot on for the big one on December 27.
