Deeper Blue gained his second success inside 72 hours with a fluent victory in a £25,000 handicap hurdle at Exeter on Tuesday 22 March in the colours of Charles Walker.

Fresh from breaking his duck over hurdles at Fontwell on Saturday in facile style he again looked a useful prospect as he landed the 0-125 handicap under a 7lbs penalty with the minimum of fuss by six lengths from Stormy Flight.

Deeper Blue spent Sunday turned out in one of our paddocks before a brief trot and canter round our sand canter on Monday ahead of another session in the paddock.

With the pace strong in a competitive race on Tuesday, Nick Scholfield had him handily placed just behind the leaders before they edged ahead two out and started to stretch clear.

Deeper Blue’s jumping was quick and accurate and it’s good to have him back in the form he showed when he finished a six lengths runner up at Chepstow to Stage Star who went on to land the Challow Hurdle at Newbury.

Now that he is over the issues that troubled him a few runs back, I’ll look to go with him again on the spring ground that seems to suit him.
