GOUDHURST STAR PROVIDES FIRST WINNER FOR THE NEW SEASON AT WARWICK
Goudhurst Star provided our first winner of the new season with a comfortable victory in the colours of Nigel and Barbara Collison in the maiden hurdle that opened the card at Warwick on Wednesday.
He is an attractive, big, scopey chasing type who you wouldn’t normally expect to be running in the middle of May.
But after so much rain in recent days the ground at Warwick was ideal and Goudhurst Star took full advantage with a fluent success on his second start.
It’s fair to say he was too green to do himself justice on his debut in a bumper at the same course in February.
But he learned plenty from the outing and despite again showing signs of experience at times on Wednesday he buckled down well in the closing stages to beat Helios Allen by six lengths.
He was given a fine, patient ride by Jonathan Burke who was impressed by the way he picked up on the flat after fluffing his lines at the final flight.
Goudhurst Star still has plenty to learn but he is only five so time is very much on his side. He will be stepping up in trip as the season goes on and looks every inch a chaser for the future.
He was bought by the Collinsons as a foal and given that he is a half brother to Winningseverything they look to have a smart prospect on their hands.
