Might I lived up to the promise of his first season with a thumping victory on his debut over hurdles at Newton Abbot on Thursday in the colours of Brian and Sandy Lambert.

His schooling had been fluent in recent weeks and he was very professional through the race as he tracked the leader Halo Des Obeaux before cruising to the front at the second last and quickly drawing clear for a most impressive success.

While Might I was keen to get on with things he settled well enough for Lorcan Murtagh on only the third start of his life and finished full of running.

We won the same GBB Novice Hurdle a year ago with Metier who went on to land the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown.
I’d say we are more likely to go up in trip with Might I but I’ll see how he comes out of the race before making any firm plans.

He still lacks experience having made a big impact in his first bumper at Warwick last season in a time that was notably quick for the conditions. He then ran flat on his only other start at Newbury in February and was subsequently as sick as any of our horses in the spring. So we gave him plenty of time to recover and put him away for this season.

He is a lovely prospect who can hopefully progress over the coming months.
