MOMELLA SERVES UP A CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR THE TEAM AT WINCANTON

 In Uncategorized
I was delighted to see Momella double her score over fences with another fluent display of jumping in the EBF Mares’ Novices’ Chase at Wincanton on Boxing Day.
It came quite quickly after her previous success at Exeter nine days earlier but I was keen to get her out again as there is a shortage of options for her in the next six weeks.
Momella has always had ability and it has been a case of building up her confidence after a couple of luckless experiences on the track.
She is on a pleasing upward curve now, jumped very well at Wincanton and always looked like holding the challenge of Cill Anna who has some decent form over hurdles. Momella has earned a step up in Grade in the months ahead.
Meanwhile I don’t quite know what to make of the way If The Cap Fits travelled for most of the race in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton. It looked as though he was unable to lay up from the start and it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see Daryl Jacob pull him up soon after half-way.
But Daryl kept persevering, If The Cap Fits belatedly began to respond and kept on so well in the closing stages that he eventually finished third, beaten only seven lengths. I’ll see how he comes out of the race before making any plans.
