FAIRY GEM OFF THE MARK OVER HURDLES
Fairy Gem gained a pleasing first success over hurdles with a clear cut victory in a maiden race over two and three-quarter miles at Ffos Las on Wednesday 4 January in the colours of the Chasing Gold Racing Club.
A combination of cheek pieces for the first time and a step up in trip helped enhance her performance on her third start over hurdles. Her jumping has improved with experience and she seemed to relish testing conditions as she stayed on in determined fashion in the hands of Sean Bowen to beat Inchagoill Lady by three lengths.
We’ve always liked Fairy Gem who ran so well to finish third in the valuable Listed Mares’ bumper at Sandown last March.
She should continue to progress and will run next in an EBF Mares’ qualifier in the hope that she can make the line up for the Final at Newbury in the Spring.
