FEBRUARY BLOG

As Spring looms on the horizon, the spotlight of our sport naturally shifts towards the major meetings that define the season.

We have a small but talented team heading to Prestbury Park in just over a week’s time. Beat The Bat has continued to deliver strong efforts in the major handicap hurdles. Our preference at this stage is to go to the Coral Cup rather than the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Hurdle, but the ultimate decision hinges on the forecast.

Our unbeaten bumper scorer, Idaho Sun, is being trained for a tilt at the Champion Bumper, and we’re thrilled to share an insightful interview with his enthusiastic owner, Jeremy Gear. In what promises to be an exciting few days, Might I and Gin Coco also hold handicap hurdle entries.

Star performer of the month goes to Altobelli, who has comprehensively built on his victory at the Berkshire Winter Million with another commanding success at Ascot. His progression has been a real highlight of the campaign. At the moment, we are leaning towards saving him for Aintree, where he could run in graded company.

Another who we hope will head to Aintree is Gidleigh Park. We had a setback after a routine schooling session, which ruled us out of the Pendil Novices’ Chase last weekend. We know how good he could be, so we will not be rushing him.

In other news, Anno Power won’t run again this season but we look forward to seeing her back in action in the autumn. The galloping grey Ask Me Early has been retired. Earls, as he is known at home, will now enjoy some well-earned downtime on the hunting field with Ciara. He has been a favourite for many followers of the yard with his striking flea-bitten grey markings and gentle nature.

On a poignant note, the passing of jockey Michael O’Sullivan has sent shockwaves around the industry. The joy this sport brings to so many is something we regularly reflect on, but moments like these serve as a powerful reminder of the incredible contributions made by both jockeys and horses. Michael’s exceptional talents will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts have been, and continue to be with his close friends and family, alongside the tight-knit Irish racing community.

All the best,

 Harry & Ciara
