METIER HAS BEEN RETIRED
We have decided to retire Metier, who has been a wonderful horse for us over the past few years, both over jumps and on the flat, in the colours of Gary Stevens.
He was at his best in deep winter ground and won on his first three starts for us over hurdles, including the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown.
He recorded another big triumph in a £100,000 handicap hurdle at the inaugural Winter Millions meeting at Lingfield.
Metier was brilliant on the flat, too, landing the 2022 November Handicap at Doncaster before adding the Chester Cup the following May.
While he continued to show his usual zest at home, he hasn’t been quite at his best on the track recently and after travelling strongly at Ascot for three-quarters of the race on Saturday he then faded quickly out of contention.
In total Metier won well just over £250,000 in prize money. He was our biggest winner on the flat and we are delighted that he is going out in one piece at the age of ten.
Our priority now is to find him a suitable home where he can enjoy a well-earned retirement.
He has been a joy to train and going forward I’d love to have a few more dual-purpose horses like him in the yard.
