Credrojava took the step up in class in her stride as she stretched her unbeaten run to four with an impressive success in the Listed Byerley Stud Mares Novice Hurdle at Taunton on Friday 30 December.

I’ve been delighted with her progress since she was recruited after winning on her debut in an Irish Point-to-Point in February.

Two miles round a sharp track like Taunton is the bare minimum for this tough mare who was given a lovely, well judged ride by Johnny Burke who sat off the strong pace set by the hot favourite She’s A Saint.

Her jumping was better than on her hurdles debut at Fontwell and she buckled down really well when Johnny began to make his move turning for home. She’s A Saint was still clear at the second last flight but Credrojava was almost upsides at the final hurdle, soon led and won a shade comfortably despite running a bit green and drifting left once she hit the front.

She showed a great attitude to seal the victory and we now have the nice dilemma of deciding where she goes next. As a daughter of Presenting she wouldn’t want testing ground which probably rules out the Grade 2 Mares’ race at Sandown which Love Envoi won last February.
