PROMISING BRITISH DEBUT FOR IN EXCELSIS DEO
In Excelsis Deo made a perfect start for the yard with a fluent success in a two mile novice handicap Chase at Hereford on Wednesday 21 December in the colours of JP McManus.
He was our second winner in 24 hours after ten days without any jump racing and both have been well ridden by Lorcan Murtagh. Having won over hurdles at Pau last January before joining us in August In Excelsis Deo was no longer a novice for this season. So it made sense to send him straight over fences and make the most of the four year old allowance.
We were looking for a nice round of jumping with something to build on but while it probably wasn’t the strongest of contests it seems like we could we have a really promising horse on our hands.
He drew clear after the last fence and was good value for the winning distance of five and a half lengths from the favourite Llandinabo Lad.
It is still early days for In Excelsis Deo and we will see how he comes out of the race before making any plans.
